Mike Hartman, Hartman Cattle Co. has been involved with Maine-Anjou cattle since their introduction into this country. He has traveled extensively overseas and in Canada and the United States studying and selecting Maine-Anjou genetics to advance the breed.

Hartman Cattle Co. annually have over 200 Maine-Anjou calves, both embryo transplants and naturals. One of the most respected marketers in the industry, Mike annually sells 100 bull calves private treaty, with the top 20 usually tabbed as Purebred herdsires and the balance sold to commercial producers. Hartman bulls are currently in service in many of the largest commercial cow outfits in Western America and Canada. Mike is a believer in pedigreed cattle and registers and transfers all the cattle he raises and sells.

Hartman genetics are woven like a web through the pedigrees of many modern day Maine-Anjou cattle. Mike advertises his greatest accomplishment is the success of his customers. 2005 marks the 10th year for the Hartman Cattle Company Customer Appreciation Sale, one of the most unique and successful events in the industry, where they sell customer consignments featuring HCC genetics.

Mike's commitment to the breed extends to service on the AMAA Board of Directors and its' various committees. He's also one of the strongest advocates of the AMAA Junior Program and always supports the state and National Junior Shows. Hartman Cattle Co. has their own Junior Bonus Program that annually rewards Junior Maine-Anjou exhibitors for show ring accomplishments with their heifer projects. At last count, 50 juniors from throughout the United States have benefited from this program.

The major shows have been used as a venue for promoting the Hartman Cattle Co. program. This exposure has helped establish HCC as a seedstock source. Mike is widely regarded as one of the nation's leading judges and is called on by all breeds. His marketing skills and savvy are admired industry wide. We've all profited from Mike's expertise in breeding and marketing Maine-Anjou cattle and we salute him as
2005 Maine-Anjou Seedstock Producer of the Year.
