The
Pen Bull Show "in the yards" at the National Western
Stock Show in Denver is recognized industry wide as
the nation's greatest competition and showcase for herdsire prospects. This annual event brings
together the best bulls from leading breeders of all
breeds to vie for the consideration of the
large crowds of commercial and seedstock producers.
The Pen and Carload awards in the yards are among
the most coveted in the industry. At Hartmans
we choose to exhibit in this arena because we feel
it is a real world atmosphere that offers exposure
to serious breeders that appreciate the opportunity
to compare the various breeding programs. In
recent years we have sold a number of black Maine
bulls to many of the largest cow outfits in Western
America and Canada and we often encounter many of
these breeders in Denver.
In the past eight years, beginning in
2000, Hartmans have bred and exhibited 14
pens of bulls in the NWSS Maine-Anjou
Pen Bull Shows. We can boast, with
all humility, that we've exhibited 7
Grand Champion Pens; 3 Reserve Grand
Champion Pens having won 12 1st prizes
and 2 2nds in class and received the
Peoples Choice award four out of the
last seven years.
This show is always judged by a panel of
3 of the industry's most respected
individuals that has included a cross
section of purebred breeders,
commercial producers, and collegiate
professionals. We're pleased that
for the
past eight years our bulls have been judged as among
the very best in the nation but this only encourages
us in our quest for further improvement and
consistency in our program. Participating in
this elite competition affords us the comparison of
how we stack up and where we should work
improvement. |
